Answer. ' River isles ' means the small islands formed in a river .

1.According to mother , how is the world?

Answer. According to mother, the world is full of pleasure in form marriage( bridal songs) , birth ( cradle songs) and various luxuries ( sandal scented leisure .

2. What do you understand by bridal song ?

Answer. Bridal song means the song sung on the occasion of a girl's marriage. It symbolizes marital pleasure.

3. Who says that bridal robes are in the loom ?

Answer. Mother says that bridal robes are in the loom .


4. The bridal songs……… fairy folk are calling.


1 According to the daughter , how is the world?

Answer. According to the daughter, the world is actually full of sorrow .

2. Who are calling the daughter?

Answer. Fairy folk are calling the daughter.


Central Idea


The poem shows dialogues between a mother and her daughter. The daughter appears attracted to the natural beauty of wild forest which promises her a sense of freedom and a pleasure of permanent kind. She wants to flee to it. She is not distracted by her mother's words glorifying the worldly pleasures of marriage , birth and various luxuries. The daughter feels that there is a hidden sorrow in all worldly pleasures. Only the lap of nature can offer true happiness.
